Parasite Prevention From Our Greensboro Veterinarian
At Benessere Animal Hospital, our Greensboro veterinarian offers all the veterinary care services and treatment options your pet needs at each stage of life. From routine wellness exams to major surgeries and everything in between, our experienced and compassionate team is here to assist you and treat your pet like one of our own.
One of the more common service options we provide to pets in our office is that of parasite treatment and prevention. If your pet isn’t currently on a preventative for fleas, ticks, heartworm, and other parasites, we highly recommend that you schedule an appointment with us at your earliest convenience.
Dangers of Common Parasites
Parasites can cause a number of serious health problems to your pets. For example, did you know that ticks can carry diseases, such as Lyme disease, which can spread to your pet by being bitten just one time? Fleas, though they may not carry disease, can also cause serious health problems for your pet because they can irritate the skin. Pets infected with fleas will scratch or bite at the itchy areas, resulting in missing patches of fur, skin irritation, and even skin lesions that can become infected. And of course, there is always the risk of a flea infestation spreading to the rest of your home.
Heartworm is another serious parasite that can affect your pet; this parasite, if left undiagnosed and untreated, can even be fatal in dogs.
Preventative Care Options for Your Pet
The good news is that protecting your pet from parasites is quite simple; there are all kinds of preventative medications that come in a variety of forms to suit your pet’s needs and lifestyle. For example, many pet owners opt for a monthly pill that they can give their pet to protect against many common parasites, whereas a flea/tick collar may make more sense for other pets. There are also topical treatments that can be applied monthly to the area between your pet’s shoulders to provide protection against fleas, ticks, heartworm, and more.
Not sure which preventative medicine is best for your pet? Our veterinary team would be happy to make a recommendation for you!
